cute ponytail ideas

Ponytails are great. They’re versatile, easy to do, and you can wear them anywhere – from the gym to a night on the town. I love adding little hair clips, like my kuromi or pink elephant, to my more casual ponytails to add an extra cute flair. Today I’ll share with you some of my favorite cute ponytail ideas. Enjoy!

Maybe some of you will recognize this: it’s the ponytail Haruka wore in Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu. This one is very simple and easy to do.

1) Take most of your hair, except for the bits around your face, and pull it into a high-ish ponytail, tying it with a ponytail holder. You can then tie a ribbon around for extra cuteness.

2) If your hair isn’t naturally curly/wavy, then get your hair damp and spritz with some holding spray, using your hands to scrunch up your hair into desired look.

3) Spray the bits hanging around your face too and use your finger to curl them tightly, then let go. It produces a very nice loose curl. This ponytail is great with or without bangs.

This next style is also very simple, and it’s really popular with young Japanese women now. It’s especially great for adding cute little clips and bows.
1) Take your hair and put it into a high-ish ponytail, leaving your bangs out if you have any. A good way to make a high ponytail that doesn’t become too loose is to tilt your head back, looking up, while you do it, so the hair stays tight.

2) Next, fluff your hair out so that it’s hanging down around the ponytail base, sort of like a flower, and you can see the center of your ponytail.

If you have longer hair, after you do step 2 take the rest of your hair and wrap it around the base of the ponytail holder, using bobby pins to keep it in place, then fluff the top bun part out a bit so it looks more puffy.

3) Now, split your hair into small sections, like flower petals, and curl them downwards, using pins to hold them in place.

4) To make it looks a little more loose and natural, you can take your fingers or a soft bristle brush and use it to fluff up the bun, make it look a little more frizzed, and spritz it with some holding spray. Finally, just add whatever cute barrettes or bows you want and you’re done!
